I'm sorry your blog appears to have been delayed

We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused...

I don't know why I haven't. Well I do. It's been busy and I've also had the winter throat cold bug which seems to have been doing the rounds.

So last Monday. We went to see Gravity. Pretty awesome I must say, espesh in 3D. It actually made me move in my seat (remember when 3D first came out and it'd make you jump? It's like that).
Tuesday.. M's mums birthday so round there for presents, takeaway and a movie 'now you see me' also very good and well worth a watch!
Wednesday was the knit stitch munch nuch at my mums... But a nightmare day as I forgot my phone... So had no way of making final arrangements.
Thursday; normally my slimming world day, but Thursday was the London album launch for the suburban dirts. You should go check them out. iTunes/amazon... Just do it.

Friday: a day off! And had planned to go Xmas dec shopping with M and meet a friend. But I felt so poorly with this bug that I just couldn't. It was even a struggle to bathe! So my darling mother came over and took me out for hot Choc... And to get vitamins!
Saturday and Sunday I had to work.. Which wasn't too bad but I didn't have access to all the computer system as I had hoped! But I got a fair bit done...
And now today I've done some more crafting and creatin... Also did baking yesterday; snicker doodles and scones. Very yummy. My scones could be lighter though.
I made up a Christmas present!

I've quickly written up this post and will publish so that it looks like I'm still here. I'll update it with pictures and videos wen I'm at computer!

What with today

Well... As last nights post demonstrated... Lack of sleep... Makes me very tired. But I did come up with a couple of ideas.... I did also try some origami flowers but being very tired they didn't come out too well. I shared some exploits with the relatives... And I think I got a commission... So Hobbycraft again tomorrow... This time for something a little doggy.

It was cold and dreary today. We went to M's parents for dinner and I took the origami.. H and I sat and got creative!

Once we had dinner had played a game of cluedo it was time to come home (cluedo I know rock n roll). On way I had a surge of creative ideas... Making use of embroidery stitches on machine :-)! They came out well!

Here's the other project I did... A little something in preparation for our trip to Somerset.

Will post some more pictures tomorrow. For now. I'm tired and willing the pain to not reappear!

Lack of sleep makes me...

Seemingly want to clean, and be domesticated, the only issue is... It is at time of writing... 4:33am.

The reason why I can't sleep is that I seem to have had a really bad abdominal pain... Which has made me feel very uncomfortable and a little scared. But I know it's most likely indigestion or something like that. I sat on our bathroom floor for about 30mins, rocking back and forth before deciding I may as well come and do something creative... Or useful with my time. Despite being in pain, I cleaned my cooker hob... Who knew boiled over water could be so darn stubborn to get off? The upside is it took my mind of the pain slightly.  I also took the opportunity to be nosy, to see who else is up and about on the block. There were a couple of places with lights on.  Saw someone just come in from a night out... Or so it appears... I did briefly wonder whether they could see me scrubbing the hob!

Our origami paper arrived today... So I may sit and do some folding... Thinking up ideas to make use of the fat quarters I have... Will post the ideas as they come into development!

Getting ready for Christmas

Thursday night... Slimming world night. Weigh in night!

Got a lovely text from my consultant this afternoon, letting me know that I had been nominated for miss slinky 2013. It was a lovely lovely surprise!

I didn't win. But I'm perfectly happy. All the ladies nominated had wonderful stories and journeys to share. But it has made me more determined.... Between now and Christmas I am going to change! Tomorrow I shall read through my Slimming World book, and write my food down, to keep me extra motivated I will write it on here too... Or I shall endeavour to anyhow! I may even make another page to my blog, specifically aimed at Slimming World. Please let me know what you think of this idea! Until tomorrow! Xxx

How do you know it's Christmas?

M and I went to the Ideal Home at Christmas show... To be honest, we were not that impressed.  Luckily we had managed to get free tickets through Money Savings Expert.

It was nice, and I got that little excited holiday buzz when we walked through the door. But on the whole... it didn't have a lot of Christmas about it, there were a mere handful of Christmas stalls.. I had hoped that we could get some Christmas decorations for our first Christmas together in the flat... but nothing jumped out at us, and anything we did see and like the look of, we both thought that I can make that instead! So, we thought we'd go and see the Christmas lights on Oxford St (it wasn't dark enough to take a decent picture, but I'm sure I'll be back there before the big day), and nip into the department stores. So that's what we did. +John Lewis ... bought a Star for the top of our tree and looked at tree skirts, and again thought.... I can make that. So looked for fabric. We both know the colour we want, its just finding the right one. I did manage to track down the pattern for the poodle skirt for my mum though... so a haberdashery visit not gone to waste! Then went onto Selfridges, and thanks to the lovely ladies at +pixiwoo  ; (they are my make up gurus, their Youtube channel is here and their website is here) I tracked down two Mac eyeshadows... "Club" and "Trax" both for a kind of smoky look.. (PS. The +pixiwoo ladies also have a great range of make up brushes which I swear by... it is on my to do list to put a bit up about my love for all things make-up +realtechniques ).

Anyhow.. I sidetracked. How do you know it's Christmas? Well we now seem to be a generation who are at the mercy of clever marketing... These are the "signals" its getting close to Christmas.
  1. The Coca-Cola Christmas advert
  2. The red cups in +Starbucks Coffee
  3. The Toys R Us advert and theme tune
  4. The John Lewis and +M&S adverts (yes, I group these together!)
  5. Every restaurant seeming to provide set menu's
Now. I'm no scrooge.  Honest I'm not.  But all the expense and stress for one day.  Just one day.  I love Christmas for the decoration, the festivities. I'm really not one for over spending money and being broke! (It just so happens that M and I's over time and additional funds are being paid to us in December... that works out well!).

Anyhow... that begins the Christmas countdown.... YIKES!

I can't think of a title for this mornings post...

Good morning... Or good afternoon, depending on when and where you are reading this.

M had to get up early to go to a meeting over in another county... So up was I, and ironed a shirt, and then got back into bed; with the aim of going back to sleep, but had to get up to lock the door... so sleep stopped....

So, have planned a day with Mum, we're going in search of fabric to make her a 50's skirt, I have the list.  I have to take mums measurements before we go.  (I shall post the pics for the project when I start). Right back to today. Arranged with mum, bathed and made up, then realised I was hungry. and I was hungry for pancakes. Now, being here in England, who do you go for, for your classic recipes? Delia Smith... I used her pancake recipe from the BBC Food website (great resource). Delias Pancakes. Once I'd got going I wondered what I could so to make it a little more... something. (Theme here for today - indecisive); so I opened the closest cupboard - my baking cupboard... and so I opted for Vanilla extract... and I must say I like the addition!

Today I need to steam our Christmas pudding... but I'm having to go out, so I don't really want to leave it on its own!

Ok.  That's all for now.... but I'll most likely be up on here again later!

Addicted!

Ok.

Now, please tell me I'm not the only one. Tonight I went out to a place where I used to frequent. A lot. And my how the place has changed. Now. I don't know if it's because I'm older, or whether it's because I wasn't drinking... But oh my days. It was bizarre. The men almost wear as much product as the women. And there was a lotta product, I mean thank goodness smoking has been banned in pubs and bars, otherwise there would be some serious health and safety issues! Now, I'm all for making an effort, but this seemed insane!

But that's not the reason for my post. Now I had a lovely lovely lovely time catching up with my beautiful Uni friends, but driving home I had it all planned, get in, kettle on, herbal tea and sit and knit for a while.... And that's what I've done.  But it was bizarre. I felt the urge to knit, and I won't lie, part of me wanted to stash my knitting in my bag so that if I had a moment whilst out, I could do a couple of rows!

Anyhow. It's nearing 2am and I've been home nearly an hour. I should go to bed.... Maybe a few more rows? I've still some tea left.... Perhaps get to the end of this pattern bit?

(NB. I'm currently working on some miniature Christmas stockings. As my pumpkin bunting idea didn't happen. I'm gonna try it with mini stockings. M shouldn't say anything as I don't need to buy anything extra!)

Night night and sweet dreams. xxx

Yummies

I was feeling quite domesticated when it got to yesterday afternoon.  Other than that I was feeling quite unmotivated!

The weather was awful here yesterday. Ok... awful too strong a word that's agreed. But it was cold, wet and windy... M and I had considered going to the cinema to watch Gravity in 3D, but once he got in, we decided against it! So with the weather being decidedly seasonal I thought what would be nice and warming? I opted for Slimming World Cowboy Pie, the recipe is available here. I exchanged celery for celeriac... as I didn't have any celery, and had 3/4 of a celeriac left to use! I made up roasted celeriac, carrots and red onions to accompany.  It was so filling and warming, I had no chance of finishing my portion! We then sat down in front of the telly, we are E4 fans and so our evening was mostly spent watching Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and Rules of Engagement! I sat knitting the Christmas snoods... I've lost count of how many I've made now.  I also finished the snood that I'm pleased to say I designed myself! I'll post a pattern here when I can!

Will post pics of the pie mix, as it did look scrummy; I'd say its a bit of a chilli bean mix really, very filling as it has the meat, veg, kidney beans, baked beans and sweet-corn. I guess you could sub the baked beans for cannellini beans if you so wished!

As promised... Pics..

Musings of my mind...

I've been troubled by some of the recent news articles.  I guess the main one was the news of the 4 year old girl, mauled to death by her family dog. Now, we'll never truly know the full story, but only that which is reported in the media.  The facts that seem to have been ascertained so far are:
  • They lived in a flat
  • The dog had to be injured/killed before it would release it's hold on the girl.
  • The dog came from a rescue home
The last point, that the dog came from a rescue home is one which seems to have been a little uncertain.  Generally in the news it is reported that the mother recently took in a dog from an animal shelter; whether it was the animal that killed the daughter, is unknown, but it is assumed.

I am greatly troubled by this.  I know of many people who have taken in rescue animals; their homes and lifestyles have been scrutinised - but it is for the benefit of the animal being adopted, as well as the family; I am troubled, as it seems this scrutiny may have been bypassed - as I don't see how a large animal such as the breed in question in this case, would be suitable for a residence such as a flat.  M and I are currently living in a flat, and our lease does not permit us to have pets (M is allergic anyhow), but those around us who own their properties do, some have cats, and others have small dogs.  There is one family who have a collie dog, but they are in a slightly larger flat than ours.  But I would not dream of having a breed as big as the one in this case in anything but a house.  To me it is common sense.

I am all for rescuing animals, and if you have a particular breed in mind, then if that is where your interests lay then it is in best interest to seek that breed of dog; but surely making the judgement of what is suitable is also a responsibility.  Not just for you taking in the animal, but also the charity.

It is such sad events which have occurred, and I could not even begin to imagine what the family are feeling in this case.  My concerns are primarily with animal rescue charities, now I'm not saying all of them are bad, that is not what I am saying in the slightest, however, it does concern me that the relevant checks may not be being carried out in all cases; and this is the risk.

Anything can happen.  I was attacked by a dog when I was three or four years old.  It was my aunts dog, and they had had him since he was a puppy.  I remember it happening, but in more recent years, my family have explained what happened.

We were all at my aunts and uncles, and it must have been autumn winter time as I remember it being quite cold.  Anyhow, the dog had been taken out for a walk, and it was a cold, wet and dark evening.  They returned from the walk in through the back door into the kitchen.  The dog shook out his fur as dogs do.  It was at this time, that little me walked into the kitchen, not fully realising that the dog had shaken, and made the floor wet and slippery.  I slipped and fell on my back, as I did, my legs kicked the back legs  of the dog,  as I went to get up, the dog turned, and pinned me, face down to the floor.  He had the back of my head in his jaws, and his paws were on my shoulders.  My dad and granddad pulled the dog off me, and me away.  I remember being carried upstairs to the bathroom where I remember being sat on the toilet and everyone coming in looking at me... I remember my top being pulled down at the back and the scratches from his claws being cleaned.  As I was wearing clothing, the scratches were superficial.  Luckily, I had no lasting physical injuries.  But the psychological damage is there forever.  I have a fear of dogs that I do not know; but even with dogs I do know and trust, I don't ever let myself fully relax with them.  I am always aware.
That dog was not put down.  But I never got close to that dog again.   Any time we'd go to my aunt and uncles that dog was shut in the conservatory.  It was at least 8 years before I would be in the same room as the dog, and even then he would have to be being held by someone, and I would be at the other end of the room, as far away as possible.

Presents

So... As have mentioned, I've started knitting Christmas presents. However, now I'm getting a growing list of who I'm making for... Not that I have been asked by anyone to make anything, but it's just who I fancy making for... I'm just too generous. :-)

Am looking forward to this Christmas, it will be M and I's first Christmas living together, but our SEVENTH Christmas holiday! We are really excited... We've already planned where the tree is going and the colour scheme...  We've also got various foodie and drinkie bits we're wanting to make... So I'll make sure I'll post details when we've firmed up our plans.

I've got a couple of plans to try and spruce up my blog. I might try a few different things.... Bear with me, and give constructive criticism where you think I need it!

The first...

Roast dinner at our little abode!

I got very excited to use our oven... It has one of those glass doors which is perfectly clear... So it means I can keep an eye on my foodie exploits!

Check out the Yorkshire puddings!

And here is the finished article... A little blurry but I was keen to get a munchin'

Yummy!

I've also done bread in our oven....
My loaf did come out a little flat; but beautifully tasty!

Funny Money

Ok... I feel awkward when people ask me to make them something.. Often they'll say I'll pay you for them; but then once you've done the tot up in your heard:
Yarn price + time spent + beauty of finished product ;-) sometimes it just doesn't feel comfortable discussing it.
Anyone out there with advice? Similar experience?

Knit Stitch, Munch, Bunch

So, I have a group of amazing ladies, who are all about the crafting! We get together, once a month and get craftin, and eating! So were an unofficial stitch and bitch group I guess! :-)

We haven't had any major all together projects just yet, but I'm sure there's something we could get our teeth into soon enough!

The Eventual Scarf

So... Early 2013 my OH (M) asked me to make him a scarf; so we found a pattern; and because I want this to be a scarf that he will wear I made him come wool shopping with me. So, pattern chosen, wool selected. Project cast on... Knitted about 10 inches worth... That is how it stayed....
So feeling like a failure I decided to try out some stitch variations... And I'm pleased to say it worked. Once finished I will take some photos and add up the wool and stuff. Must say I'm chuffed with it and it's knitting up miles quicker than the other one! So; I'll be calling the scarf pattern... The eventual scarf! As I eventually got there! :-)

On another note; it's been payday... And it's getting close to Christmas... And I think I'm going to make snoods and fingerless mitts for everyone.., or as many people as I can... Saves money!

Also; getting close to rememberence day... Will need to make up some poppies... I've been commissioned two! Best get on!
Knit stitch craft and bake, with love, happiness, kindness and smiles xxxx
